Honey Dew

Honey Dew came home to live with us in December. She is quite the crazy puppy and loves playing in her backyard. We thought she would never get potty trained, but finally after 6 months she's got it down! Honey has quite the voracious appetite and will eat just about anything. (At 7 mos. she weighs in at 62 pounds) We spend lots of time chasing her around the house, when she snatches things off the counters and tables. She likes to play "keep away" with Justin's socks every night when he's getting ready for work. Most of her pictures are when she first wakes up because that is the only time we can get her to sit still! She and her two sisters sleep quite soundly on our Sealy bed! (heeehee) Honey came from a home that loved Labradors, just like us. We thank the Wargo family in Stow for our beautiful pup, who brings great joy to our lives everyday!

("The Snoopy" look occurs after being scolded! She's too cute to stay mad.)

Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun!

Lucy is a swimmer. She loves her puppy pool and sometimes hops in the shower with me. She really is a water dog!

Abbey, you're such a good girl!

Oh Boy! What a wild girl you are Honey Dew.

Random Acts of Kindness

Tonight I stopped and helped a disabled car and it's passengers on the side of the highway.

- 2 a.m.
- flat tire
- 2 women
- make that 2 women looking very confused

Not a good senario. I've had myself a heaping helping of highway car trouble, so I felt the need to stop. If you have never had the highway car crisis, you can't relate. But, if you have- you understand how terrified you are that some soda drinking, radio surfing, child tending idiot is going to barrel into your stationary vehicle at 65mph. To make a long story short these two chicks were far from home and without a spare tire OR jack. I will not elaborate on how silly this move was on their behave. Regardless, I found a keen use for a cell phone and within the hour they were homeward bound.

I believe in random acts of kindness. It made me sad to hear that they had been sitting on the side of the road for over an hour and not one person had stopped to assist. While we were waiting for a ride, a state highway patrol officer actually passed us by without so much as a brake light. Very disappointing. Indeed. I suppose most people do not stop because they believe the person is a serial killer... or they are just in a hurry to get on with their life. I have always believed that life comes full circle eventually and karma is mighty ugly when it catches up with you. When you see someone in need, stop your busy life and lend a hand. Next time it could be you walking in their shoes.

Top Ten Songs...Ever!

A short list of 10 songs I could never get tired of...

10.) "Nothin' But A Good Time"- Poison
9.) "Linger"- The Cranberries
8.) "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"- Cyndi Lauper
7.) "Reelin' In the Years"- Steely Dan
6.) "Tiny Dancer"- Elton John (sorry Ms. Marie, but it's true!)
5.) "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" - George Strait (oh George, we ARE old friends, aren't we?)
4.) "Mr. Brownstone"- Guns-n-Roses
3.) "Tuesday's Gone"- Lynyrd Skynyrd
2.) "Fishin' In the Dark"- Nitty Gritty Dirt Bank
1.) "Going To Carolina"- James Taylor

This is a list of ten, so I could not include every song by George Strait or James Taylor. But, to be sure they are my fav. I nearly lost my mind when I finally got to see the "Great Strait" in concert February 16th, 2007. Each song has a special place in my heart and seems to transport me to a different place in time. I would like to thank my mother for raising her children to have a fine appreciation for ALL types of music. Some of my greatest memories are sitting cross-legged on the living room floor with her, listening to her record collection. Two Decades and thousands of songs later, three twenty-something kids are driving down the highway singing those same songs together in unison- at the top of their lungs in between giggles!

Thanks Ma.

One More Picture...

IF it were up to me and we lived somewhere other than the city, I wouldn't blink an eye. This is the reason we would never breed dogs. I would never be able to find homes good enough for these beautiful pups. Alas, I have promised Justin no more dogs until we have outlived the three we have. Ohhh, but to dream...

Rise and Shine Sleeping Beauty

I don't think Justin is that enthusiastic about having his picture taken when he first wakes up. Just a hunch.

Rain, Rain...here to stay!

The forecast calls for rain.
And some more rain.

So much for yard work (yeah!)

But...rain leads to this.

And this.

Guilty!

These are the faces of three VERY guilty pups, who tore up the bathroom trash all over my carpet after being left alone for 10 whole minutes. I think it is safe to say, we have our hands full!

The List of To-Do's

I have procrastinated. For Two Weeks. And now, I must suffer.
It was fun while it lasted, but now I must.......

1.) Wash like 10 loads of laundry, including all the blankets in my house.
2.) Clean my car out- it is REALLY bad!!!!!
3.) Put together my NEW clothing rack from Ikea ($4.99- what a steal!)
4.) Plant my flowers and do all the trimming (I loath yard work)
5.) Give three labradors a bath. In a baby pool. In the back yard.
6.) Run the vacuum through the entire house.
7.) Finish tearing down the wallpaper in the kitchen.

There is a lot more to do, but I think I will stop there. Let's not get carried away! It's suppose to be the day of rest.

We are....

Fun to Hang Out With!
VERY Ticklish!

Happily Married!

Leave Sleeping Dogs Lie

We WERE taking a nap....

Then came puppy kisses...

All proof that you should leave sleeping dogs lie.

Proof that people are strange

Do you know this man?

We bought our cellphone on eBay from him.

The phone works great!

I'm not sure why he felt compelled to send us a photo, of him hanging out in his backyard.

I think this is just more proof that people are stranger than we think.

5 Things That Make Me Strange

I am often told I'm a little on the unusual side. ...Really?? So I tried not-very hard to think of 5 things that make me a "strange ranger".

1. I won't drink out of a plastic cup. Nope. I sure won't. I think that we are slowly being poisoned by Tupperware, not to mention that everything just tastes funny coming out of plastic!

2. I don't like summer. I never have. Too many reasons to explain...

3. I imagine that sea creatures may be able to sense my fear and so I have concluded that the extent of my beach experience will be walking the edge of the surf and collecting uninhabited shells. Sorry Atlantic Ocean... just not a fan.

4. I do not like the round chicken nuggets from Wendy's. I request the "non-round" 5 piece when I visit. Justin is typically mortified when the cashier looks at me with a crinkled eyebrow and says, "huh?".

5. I am so claustrophobic that I must always have the window open in the car. No matter what the weather is like.

A Story That Touches My Heart

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.
After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," he answered.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

"The View"

I can't resist throwing a few thoughts towards this talkshow. This show is well known for it's inability to assemble a group of hosts that can peacefully discuss topics affecting our world today. I sat and watched the episode of Rosie O'Donnell and Elizabeth Hasselbeck feuding over a comment that Rosie had made on a previous episode regarding nearly 3/4 of a million dead Iraqi citizens. This comment sent waves of anti-patriotism accusations Rosie's way and ended with an all-out bitch fit on national television. I believe the intention of this show is to discuss certain sensitive topics and hear views and opinions from four different women. Thus, should we not expect to get 4 different opinions? Instead of being able to listen to the topic matter and see a few different points of view, we are subjected to the childish, high-pitched squeals of an obviously pissed- off Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I was truely surprised that Hasselbeck didn't throw herself to the floor and scream like a three year old child! I suspect Republicans everywhere were as embarrassed as myself that this woman associates herself with the party. Never-the-less, I believe the point here is that regardless of whether you agree with something someone says, this is still America and everyone is entitled to their opinion! Congrats to O'Donnell for remaining civilized in her responses to Hasselbeck. She possesses the qualities necessary to express one's self even in the face of opposition.
I would not be inclined to say that I agree 100% with O'Donnell's comments regarding this topic. I might suggest that declining to believe there is some validity to her comment is cowardly. We may love our troops without supporting the assignments they have undertaken. We must dare to oppose our governments decision making at all times, for with indifference of good people comes great evil. How many innocent lives will end today because no one had the guts to accuse our government of wrong-doing.

Has This Ever Happened To You?

So... tonight I was going through a few odds and ends of things in our house and I happened across a movie from Giant Eagle Video. Now this movie had caused several assorted conversations with the video store that were on the more unpleasant side. I swore venomously that this video had been returned and that the general incompetence of the clerk was most assuredly to blame. After a lot of bad noise, they removed the black mark from my name and soon after closed their doors. I now feel a burdon of guilt at the closing of their establishment and feel that I owe someone an apology...but who???? Open mouth and insert foot....big foot!!!

Strawberry Swirl Cake

Now...in case you haven't noticed, I love strawberries!! I am dedicating the month of May to strawberries and the delicious desserts they make. I found this recipe recently, and it is super easy and yummy!

1 pkg. (2-layer size) white cake mix
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Brand Strawberry Flavor Gelatin
2/3 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
2/3 cup powdered sugar
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed
1-1/2 cups sliced strawberries

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans; set aside. Prepare cake batter as directed on package. Pour half of the batter into medium bowl. Add dry gelatin mix; stir until well blended. Spoon half of the white batter and half of the pink batter, side-by-side, into each prepared pan. Swirl batters together using a teaspoon.
BAKE 30 min. Cool 30 min. in pans. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
MIX sour cream and powdered sugar in medium bowl until well blended. Gently stir in whipped topping. Place one of the cake layers on serving plate; spread top with 1 cup of the whipped topping mixture. Top with 1 cup of the strawberries and remaining cake layer. Spread top and side of cake with remaining whipped topping mixture. Top with remaining 1/2 cup strawberries just before serving. Store any leftover cake in refrigerator.

Low-Fat Chicken Salad...Easy...Yummy!

2 cups cooked skinless chicken breast, cubed
1 stalk of celery, sliced
1 medium unpeeled apple, diced
1/4 cup raisins
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup low fat yogurt (PLAIN)
1/4 cup fat-free mayonnaise
1 tsp curry powder

Place chicken cubes in a medium bowl along with sliced celery, diced apple and raisins. In a small bowl, whisk lemon juice, yogurt, mayonnaise and curry powder. Pour over chicken and toss to coat.
I got this yummy, easy recipe from the internet and we like to eat it on pita bread versus the salad. You can also easily add walnuts or diced onions to this recipe, but this will change the fat content significantly!

Reasons I Love To Cook

I have loved to cook since before I was tall enough to stand at the stove and stir a pot. Now, there several types of cooking and an endless list of ways to temp the taste buds! I would have to say I specialize in comfort foods. My great-grandmother and I would spend hours in her kitchen making recipes she had been serving her family for over 60 years! She would assign me little tasks and bussle around the kitchen canning fruits and vegetables, stirring sauces and baking the best pies and cakes you've ever tasted! The very first recipe she taught me to make was the peanut butter buckeye. I remember standing in my mom's kitchen struggling to get the ingredients measured perfectly, while melting the chocolate on the stove top. I'll never forget the feeling I got when my family devoured the entire batch and complimented me on my "skill" at making this Christmas favorite. From that point on, I was hooked. I learned to can fresh fruits and jams. I perfected the art of a delicious lasagna. And I made my grandma cry when she tasted my first homemade pie crust! The day she gave me the recipe for her famous pie crust, she told me it was a family secret. I quickly committed it to memory where it still lives to this day!

Grandma Ruth has been gone for three years last Sunday. I miss everything about her. The way she always smelled of baby powder and aquanet, the way she smiled even when she was "mad as hell", or how she would never throw anything away! She kept Hershey's Kisses and water colors in a small cupboard for when her grandbabies came to visit and gave me a new baby doll she handmade every Christmas.

I keep her in my heart now and in my kitchen. Grandma was always in the kitchen. She said it was the hub of her family. No matter what was happening, her cooking always brought them together at the table. Many family members have tried to duplicate her recipes over the years and they all have tasted pretty good, but never quite as good as grandma's. Last year for the 4th of July, I made all her favorite recipes and we all gathered in her kitchen to eat. I received loads of compliments and several family members pumped me for information regarding "secret ingredients", to which they attributed the difference in grandma's recipe versus their version. To those individuals I reply, that Grandma Ruth did indeed make all of her dishes with one unlisted ingredient, but it is no secret. She always cooked with LOVE.

Recipe for Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

Crust for a double-crust pie

1 cup plus

2 teaspoons sugar

1/3 cup flour

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 ½ cups sliced rhubarb (about 1 ¼ pounds)

2 ½ cups hulled strawberries, halved and quartered if large

2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut in several pieces

1 tablespoon milk

Vanilla ice cream, optional

1. Roll half of the dough out on a lightly floured surface to a 12-inch circle. Ease into a 9-inch pie plate. Roll out the second disc of dough and slip onto a rimless cookie sheet. Refrigerate while making the filling.
2. Whisk together the sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the rhubarb, strawberries, lemon juice, and vanilla and toss until the fruit is well coated with the sugar mixture. Set aside for 10 minutes until the fruit softens slightly.
3. Preheat the oven to 425F. Position an oven rack in the lower third of the oven.
4. Spoon the rhubarb mixture into the pie shell and distribute the butter over the fruit. Cover with second crust and trim the overhanging dough to ¾ inch all the way around. Turn the edges under, flush with the rim of the pie plate, and crimp or flute to seal. Use a sharp knife to cut several steam vents. (Or you could cut 1-inch strips and weave a lattice crust, crimping the edges). Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle with the remaining 2 teaspoons of sugar.
5. Bake for 30 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 and bake until the crust is a rich golden brown, the fruit is tender, and juices bubble through the vents, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack at least 1 hour.

I prefer the lattice crust top because it looks prettier and is less messy in the oven!

Recipe for Lemon Meringue Pie

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
dash salt
1 1/2 cups hot water
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter
1 scant teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1 baked pie pastry, 9-inch
3 egg whites
1 teaspoon lemon juice
6 tablespoons granulated sugar

In a medium saucepan, combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, the cornstarch, flour, and salt; gradually stir in hot water. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low; continue cooking, stirring, for 8 minutes. Stir about 1/3 cup of the hot mixture into the slightly beaten egg yolks, then return to hot mixture in saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and cook for 4 minutes longer. Add butter and lemon peel. Slowly stir in 1/3 cup lemon juice. Pour into baked cooled pie shell. Cool to room temperature.
Beat egg whites with 1 teaspoon lemon juice to soft peaks. Gradually add the 6 tablespoons sugar, beating until stiff peaks are formed and sugar has dissolved. Spread meringue over filling, covering completely. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown. Cool pie completely before serving.

Recipe for Strawberry and Peach Pie

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
3 medium peaches, cored and sliced
3 cups of strawberries, thinly sliced
3 Tbsp lemon juice (I use the little plastic lemon stuff.)
1 egg
1 Tbsp water
2 deep-dish pie crusts, thawed (one for top)

1. Preheat over to 425 degrees.2. Add peaches and strawberries to large bowl.3. Mix flour, sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon in a small bowl.4. Add dry mixture to fruit and toss. 5. Add lemon juice to fruit mixture.6. Add water to egg and beat. Brush egg mixture on bottom of one pie crust. 7. Prick bottom pie crust. Add fruit mixture.8. Cut other pie crust into 1/2-inch strips and create a lattic on top of the pie. (Instead of cutting top into strips, you could also cut some decorative holes in the top crust with apple- or other-shaped cookie cutters.) I found this step worked better if you ball up the top pie crust, then roll it back out before cutting or working with it.9. Brush top of pie with egg.10. Cook for ten minutes at 425, then turn oven down to 350 and cook for another 35-40 minutes until crust is browned and the filling is bubbly. (Cooking it at 425 for ten minutes will firm up your crust.)

This would be great served warm with ice cream!

Era of "Lost Signal" Comes To An End

So we finally lived out our satellite contract with Dish Network. Most likely to be called the era of "lost signal"! Because this house lives and breathes by a television, we are never short on quality programming and our latest selection for viewing entertainment is no different! I was oblivious to the fact there were over 500 channels that can be purchased through Time Warner Cable! Remember when HBO had one channel? and it was 17.99 a month? and they played the same movie every day? and your parents didn't allow you to watch it after 10? Well, now HBO has like 8 channels and it's like $10 a month! But for those of you who hate change: they still play the same movie everyday and you still shouldn't allow your children to watch it after 10!

When it came time to select our channel package we couldn't seem to agree on anything, except that we could lose half of the home shopping channels and still be satisfied customers! Alas, we ended up with nearly 100 movie channel choices, 300 "regular" channels and 100 chances to watch various different sporting events! Tack on the DVR and multi-floor viewing, and it is certain that no house work will ever get done and I will be spared the pleasure (note sarcasm) of seeing any "Conan", "Predator" or gun-slinger type movies ever again! Ahh...that felt nice to say! Better yet, I will never miss another episode of "King of the Hill", "Family Guy", "Gilmore Girls", or "House". Freakin' Sweet~

5 new songs I love

I love spring for reasons that have nothing to do with allergies, muddy dogs, and yard work. Spring means a fresh start. It also means new music. Spring and early summer are loaded with new CD releases, gearing me up for concert season. Yeah! I have a list of "must sees" for the summer agenda. Various different artists and groups have been googled and a wish list of concert dates have begun to accumulate!

5 songs that are already pumping through my speakers!

1.) Maroon 5 " Makes me wonder" has got me dancing all over the house!!
2.) Ne-Yo "Because of You" rocks the iPod and begs to be played while working out!
3.) Rascal Flatts "Yes I Do" such a sweet song and who doesn't love their harmony
4.) Bon Jovi "Make a Memory" lovely ballad, but I'm bias...
5.) The Whites Stripes "Icky Thump" just plain kicks ass!

And please don't forget Michael Buble's new release in April....a new spin on some good oldies! Try "Always on my mind"!

Television and more television

For the past 4 days, 4 hours and 19 minutes, I have been laying on my sofa. There is a permanent "Heather looking" indentation in the couch. On days two and three, I considered a rotating schedule of sitting on the chair and laying on the couch. But to my dismay, the couch appeared lonely and I returned faithfully. Yesterday, I positioned a small table, the remote and a drink next to the lounger, so that I may try looking at my living room from an upright position. After only 23 minutes of "King of Queens", I found myself listing reasons why I should lay back down.
1.) Better draft from fan
2.) No light glare on the t.v. screen
3.) The incision in my belly button really hurt (it did!)
4.) I just took medicine....

For the time being, I sit with my remote and watch "The Wedding Singer", "Spider-Man 2", "Pride and Prejudice" and "Click". (all that is offered by HBO for $23.99 per month) Most of the incisions are healing nicely and I expect a doctor's visit on Thursday.

Surgery Complete

So. The surgery is over. I am in pain, but feeling better that I did. I was so nervous beforehand, but Bj and Justin kept me laughing. Thank god for that. Those two should have a radio show. So many people came to see me and called me today. I love my friends and family. Bj and Justin made me a funny card and got me a teddy bear, which cracked me up as well!! Who could ask for more than that. In the meantime, I am taking advantage of my wedding vows (in sickness and in health) being waited on hand and foot by Nurse Taylor. He's a big teddy bear himself, and I couldn't ask for better. So, if this entry appears to be written by someone with the mentality of a 3 year old it would be due to several doses of wonderful pain medication. By far the biggest perk of the surgery. Hopefully, I will be up an around tomorrow.

The Surgery and Other Things

So. I get to meet with my surgeon next week and schedule my gallbladder surgery. Bah!!!! Anything will be better than the way I have felt the past year, I guess. Still, I've never spent any time in the hospital or even had a broken bone. As a matter of fact, I never even missed one day of school from Kindergarden through High School. (I received that award at my senior banquet. Talk about an embarrassing moment.) So, I guess I should feel fortunate to have experienced a relatively healthy life. However, I don't relish the thought of having a giant needle pushed through my belly button, or having 3 incisions made in my abdomen. Whatever it takes.

So. Have you heard the latest Rascal Flatts CD? I'm in love. My mom and I created the coolest slide show of old family photos with the tune "Yes, I do" in the background. I can't get enough of this song. The whole CD is phenomenal! Check it out, you won't be sorry.

Family hand-me-downs are the best! I just inherited my grandfather's baby rocker. It has been in our family for over 300 years! I can't wait to put it in our baby's room someday.

Lucy, Abbey and Honey are driving my up a wall! They can't wait to get outside and play in the sunshine. Speaking of which, where the hell is the sunshine? I love a good snowstorm. I also love a rainy afternoon in the house. But, this is ridiculous! Predictions of snow tomorrow???? Bring on the sunshine, cookouts and fishing!

This cracked me up!!

So anyone who knows me, knows that I love a good scary movie. So when the opportunity arose to take a little quiz about which killer I am most like, imagine my surprise!!

You are Hannibal Lecter. You don't need to eat human flesh to live, but do so because it just tastes good. You are very intelligent, and enjoy using it to your advantage to keep people guessing. You aren't a killing machine, but when you do decide to let loose, watch out! Dinner is served, with some fava beans, and a nice chianti!

I'm Back!!

My long awaited return has come!
Only kidding!
Anyways, this is like the greatest way to keep a day to day journal! Let me just say that I am now a happily married woman and the proud parent of three beautiful labrador retrievers! (no plans for human children as of yet!)
More happy news: My brother is back with our family again, after a long time "away". Just seeing his face sends me back to a simpler time, when after school activities were my greatest concern! A lot has changed since then, but the way we laugh and have fun is no different. I feel like a piece of my heart is back where it belongs.
Things are wonderful with the rest of the family as well. In case you didn't hear, my niece Lily no longer thinks I'm the anti-christ! She smiles when she sees me now and insists that everytime we are together, I sit cross-legged and read her a book. A girl after my own heart! She's positively beautiful and growing up so fast!!! She'll be two years old in August. Where does the time go? We are hoping she will have a baby sister or brother in the near future we can spoil as well!! (hint, hint)
Other than that life is good. We cherish everyday and thank god for every moment, big or small, happy or sad!

The best of friends

I recently read a post about someone who lost their dog. I felt myself begin to cry as I read the many comments of love from her friends and family. That's what a dog is...a friend and family. It is so very hard to lose a pet, because they become part of your life in a way you can't explain. I count on my pups when I am feeling like crap and need someone to listen and not talk. They are my inspiration to go for a walk around the block and thoroughly enjoy it!!! They always want to have dinner with me and are never to busy to play catch in the backyard. Many people find their lives to be insignificant and claim that dogs do not have spirits. I look into my dogs eyes, and I see their spirits. They experience feelings just like us! They can be mad or happy and sometimes even sad. They feel the pain of rejection or love from hugs and kisses. Take a moment to sit and look into the eyes of a dog and you will find their inner human. It's innocence in its purest form. In many ways a dog is far more emotionally advanced than we humans. They possess the ability to love us unconditionally for what we are and what we are not. One day they leave us for a better place, but their love and devotion remains.

The Bachelor Party

Evidently, it is the best evening my soon-to-be-husband has spent in some time. I wake up this morning on the couch and wonder what has happened last night to my fiancee. He did not wake me up when he got home?! Did he make it home?! Ah, there are his keys on the coffee table...and his shirt on the chair...and his shorts on the top step. I spy my intended sleeping like a baby, once I reach the top of the stairs. Money, credit cards and his license are laying in disaray on the floor. Must of been a good time, I think.

Gift Registration

Registering for gifts is that last thing on my list of to-dos for our wedding. However, I made a firm decision that I was going to get online and make the effort to find a few things we would like. Well, those few things turned into like a million things. I became a woman in a trance! Seriously!!! I had no idea how many things we don't have!!!!!! It's not to say that I am expecting to get even a third of these things, but it was soooo much fun! Why yes, I think that $300 purple KitchenAid mixer will make all of my cake mixing dreams come true. Alas, my voice of reason (Justin) broke through and helped me clean the list up a little. I did most of my registering at Sears. I had no idea I even liked Sears until today.

The only thing I can't figure out is, when I started dreaming of feather-down beds and toaster ovens!?

This Girl's Best Friend

In one month, we will be married. We will share all of our tomorrows.
I am so glad that six short years ago, you came into my life. Some how you became the greatest friend I ever had. And then one day you asked me to join your family and be your wife. There are not many moments in life that have taken my breath away, and that day in the fountain will forever be locked away in my memory.
Hind sight is 20/20, but I still wouldn't change the way we got here. I am so glad to walk next to you. Thank you for always holding my hand. Thank you Justin, for six years of hugs, kisses, laughter, and true friendship.

The Saga Continues

I love to window shop online.
I do not love to purchase online.
If I can't touch it before I buy it, I shouldn't even bother.
The Knot.com is a great website for ideas. But I don't think I will ever order online from them again! Three times my order has been totally wrong upon arrival!!!! I ordered wedding bell favors and all my bridesmaid gifts from their website. I did not receive one of my gifts and the other two had the wrong font in the personalization. So I returned the order, except for my bells. Two days later, I got the missing gift, but with the wrong font. I called them back (Monday-Friday only...grr) and told them I had received the missing gift, but that the font was wrong. I sent that one back and the next day, I got another one with the wrong font!!!! By now I'm a little frustrated, but still behaving like a good little bride. So a few more days pass, and I get a new package which contained 3 of the same personalized gift. I can't very well give all of my bridesmaids a gift with Tiffany's name engraved on it! So, long story short, I had a mental meltdown and called up their customer service and freaked out. This was supposed to be the easy stuff! "Sorry for the inconvenience miss, what can we do to satisfy you?" I don't think that I was unclear about where my satisfaction lies!
3 gifts with personalized names in a Victorian font.
I should be receiving my new order in a few days, less the expense of shipping. I'm afraid to open the box.

A Crazy Coincidence

So...my mom went to meant her almost, new mother-in-law the other day. I guess it was some type of family gathering, in which all of his brothers and their wives were invited as well. My mom finds out that they are having a party on August 7th for their mom's birthday. My mom thought it was a funny coincidence that their mom's birthday was the same day as hers. Later in the afternoon she finds out that the party isn't just for their mom...it was for all their wives as well!!! THEY WERE ALL BORN ON AUGUST 7TH!!! How crazy is that? Now the party is for 5, my mom included. Just thought I would share this anomally!

The Tattoo

To earmark my 25th year on the planet, I am getting my first tattoo. I have saved my first inking experience for this landmark moment in my life. This tattoo will also represent a year of incredible changes. I will be a newly married woman with a home of my own and two wonderful dogs. Let's not forget the new family I am acquiring officially this September, or the job promotion that I have worked so diligently for over the past 5 years. All these things will be commemorated by a beautiful blue and white tattoo of a snowflake at the base of my neck. I have spent a considerable sum of time searching and at the moment when I nearly settled for a butterfly, it came to me. I am a snowflake kinda girl! Who else do you know that will sit on the front porch in November until 2 a.m. waiting for that first snowfall of the season? Who owns more gloves or boots that me? Who loves winter and all its beauty more than me? I have finally found a symbol to represent me and the most special season of my life.

Reasons I Love Friday

I love Friday. I think it all stems back to when I was in school, and Friday held the promise of two full days away from the classroom. But Friday was also the day the cafeteria served pizza for lunch. And in grade school, it was gym day!! (which always was my favorite, until high school) But then again Friday meant that Mom would take us to Pizza Hut for dinner and then we would get a new video game and play it all evening. (pizza and Friday just go together!) On some Fridays my grandparents would pick us up and take us someplace for the weekend. I remember how excited I would be waiting for them. What will we do this weekend? Roller skating, the zoo, an amusement park, or maybe we would set up tents in their backyard and "camp-out" all weekend. Friday now represents the busiest day of my week (bank manger!) and when I get an opportunity to leave early or have the day off altogether, I do something special just to keep our family tradition alive! My dream is that one day I can have a Friday Family Tradition for my own little family.

My Obsession

I am obsessed with iTunes.
Somewhere a stockholder for iTunes is cheering me on as a click "download", over and over and over again.
I mean it's only .99, right? Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a total sucker for anything that costs a buck. And what could make my life more complete than to own every popular song from the 70s and 80s? I own the entire Cyndi Lauper collection in original recordings and concert series. And just the other day I said to myself...geez you don't own enough Alison Krauss. I got 'em all, now! And as if it wasn't bad enough that I download atleast 2 new songs everyday, I am now into downloading comedy series at 1.99 a pop. Which is not as addictive, because I could get 2 songs for that price. See how I justify my spending? Justin has proclaimed that this is going to all culminate into a "step" program in which I will be deemed an ituneaholic, and never be allowed back on that computer again! Until then, I am downloading furiously to get my fix.
